One of the most common questions we get before booking is: "What exactly happens on install day?" People want to know how much of their day to block off, whether they need to be home, what the crew will be doing, and what the finished result will look like.

Here's the complete walkthrough — from when our truck pulls up to when you're controlling your lights from your phone for the first time.

The Short Answer Most Starise installations are completed in a single day. The average residential install takes 4–8 hours depending on roofline length and complexity. You don't need to be home for most of it — just for the pre-work check-in and the final app walkthrough.

Before install day: what we do to prepare

Once you've accepted your quote, our team creates a detailed installation plan for your specific home. We note the exact roofline measurements, the mounting approach for your fascia type, the wire routing path, and where the controller box will be located. When our crew shows up on install day, there's no figuring things out — they have a plan.

We'll confirm your install date and give you a 2-hour arrival window the day before. Most Calgary installs happen between 8am and 4pm.

The installation process, step by step

1

Arrival and site walkthrough (15–20 min)

Our crew introduces themselves, confirms the plan with you, and does a final visual check of the roofline. This is when we note any last-minute adjustments — an obstacle we hadn't seen in photos, a fascia section that needs a different mounting approach, etc. We confirm where the controller box will go and where wiring will run.

2

Channel cutting and preparation (30–60 min)

Our custom aluminium channels are cut to the exact length required for each section of your roofline. Channels are mitre-cut at corners so they meet cleanly at angles. End caps are fitted. This is all done on-site with our own equipment — we don't use pre-cut generic lengths.

3

Channel mounting along the roofline (1–3 hours)

This is the core of the install. Channels are mounted to your fascia using weatherproof stainless steel screws at precisely measured intervals. Our team uses laser levels to ensure perfectly straight runs. Corners are handled with custom-angle fittings — no gaps, no exposed seams. For two-storey homes, we use commercial-grade ladders and scaffolding as needed.

4

LED puck installation and connection (30–60 min)

Our Gen 2 LED pucks are seated into each channel at 8-inch spacing and connected at junction points. Connections are made with weatherproof clip connectors — no soldering required on-site, which eliminates the risk of poor solder joints failing in Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles.

5

Wiring routing and concealment (30–60 min)

All power wiring is routed from the roofline down to the controller box. We use your existing fascia and soffit pathways wherever possible to minimize visible wire runs. Where wiring must be visible, we use colour-matched conduit that blends with your home's exterior. No bare wires, no exposed cable staples.

6

Controller installation and electrical connection (30 min)

The Starise controller box is mounted in your garage, mechanical room, or utility space — wherever is most accessible and protected from weather. It's hard-wired to a dedicated circuit (we handle this with a licensed electrician on our team). The controller manages all zones and communicates with the app via Wi-Fi.

7

System test and quality check (20–30 min)

Before the final walkthrough, we run every zone through a full colour cycle to confirm every LED is working, every connection is solid, and every channel section is evenly lit. We check for any dark spots, inconsistent brightness, or alignment issues and correct them on the spot.

8

App setup and owner walkthrough (20–30 min)

This is the fun part. We download the Starise app on your phone (or tablet), connect it to your controller, and walk you through everything: picking colours, choosing animated patterns, setting schedules, and using the presets (Canada Day, Christmas, Halloween, etc.). We don't leave until you're comfortable with the system.

What your home looks like after install

When we leave, your roofline will have clean aluminium channels running its full length, with no visible wiring on the exterior. The lights will be off (or in whatever setting you chose during the walkthrough). From the street, the channels are subtle and architectural-looking — they don't draw attention when off, and they look spectacular when on.

We clean up completely before leaving. No packaging, no cut scraps, no mess. Most homeowners say the install looks cleaner than they expected.

What to do before install day

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be home all day during the install?
No. You only need to be present for the initial walkthrough (15–20 min at the start) and the app setup at the end (20–30 min). The work in between can happen without you.
Do you need access inside my home?
Usually only for the controller installation and electrical connection, which requires brief access to your garage or utility room. We'll confirm this at the pre-install consultation.
What if it's raining or snowing on install day?
We install in most weather conditions except active lightning, high wind, or freezing rain that makes ladder work unsafe. If weather forces a reschedule, we'll contact you 24 hours in advance and get you rebooked as quickly as possible.
Will the installation damage my fascia?
We use appropriately-sized screws for your fascia type. The mounting holes are small, weatherproofed, and nearly invisible. If you ever remove the system (unlikely, but possible), the holes are easy to fill and paint. We've never had a fascia damage complaint in over 1,392 installs.
What happens if something stops working after install?
Call us. Our lifetime warranty covers all parts and labour — if anything stops working, we come back and fix it at no cost to you. Response time for warranty service is typically 2–5 business days.
